We are seeking a seasoned Commercial Head to lead our operations in Ghana, West Africa Regional Office. This role requires a strong commercial acumen, strategic thinking, and people leadership. As the Commercial Head, you will be accountable for driving the region’s business growth by formulating and executing commercial strategies while building long-lasting relationships with clients, stakeholders, and partners.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Strategic Planning:
Provide visionary leadership to the regional commercial team, fostering a high-performance culture.
Develop and implement commercial strategies aligned with PIL’s global objectives and market trends.
Manage the P&L and budget for the commercial division, ensuring profitability and cost optimization.
Lead cross-functional collaboration with operations, finance, and HR to align commercial goals with business needs.
Business Development & Revenue Growth
Identify and pursue new business opportunities to drive revenue growth and market share in West Africa.
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key clients, governmental bodies, and strategic partners.
Develop new strategic partnerships to create competitive advantages and increase market penetration.
Monitor industry trends, customer behavior, and competitor activity to adjust strategies proactively.
Sales & Client Relationship Management
Oversee sales planning, pricing, and contract negotiations to maximize profitability.
Implement customer retention strategies to enhance client satisfaction and long-term business relationships.
Promote PIL’s value-added services (intermodal, breakbulk, and reefer services) to capture market needs.
Team Leadership & Talent Management
Lead, coach, and mentor a team of commercial professionals, setting clear goals and performance expectations.
Develop succession plans and talent pipelines to strengthen leadership capabilities within the region.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting professional development and continuous learning.
Governance & Compliance
Ensure adherence to local regulatory frameworks, company policies, and ethical standards.
Drive risk management initiatives to mitigate financial and operational risks.
Align with PIL’s commitment to sustainability and ESG goals, contributing to a sustainable shipping future.
Must Have
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field (MBA preferred).
10+ years of senior commercial leadership experience within the shipping, logistics, or transportation industry.
Proven experience managing regional operations with a focus on business development and P&L management.
Strong understanding of the African shipping and logistics industry with knowledge of market dynamics in West Africa.
Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams, driving results through collaboration and motivation.
